Leopard Bar, Twelve Apostles Hotel

The perfect place to celebrate Cape Town's glorious coast line coaxed a good friend into having a very classy tea in token of her 19th birthday. The insignificance of turning 19 years old was certainly made up for I'll tell you!
The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa is simply a piece of material excellence surrounded by pure natural beauty, including the twelve apostles (as in the Twelve Apostle Mountains) that it is sheltered by. It is situated between the cosmopolitan Camps Bay and harbour of Hout Bay, which makes this hidden hotel a more than worthwhile escape from the hustle and bustle!

INTERESTING FACT: The first residents of Camps Bay were the San and Khoi people. When the Dutch settlers arrived in the Cape the Twelve Apostle Mountains were covered in forests, where lion, leopard and antelope roamed. The Khoi tribe lived on the slopes of the Twelve Apostles, but they were dying from measles and smallpox, and they were restricted to the Oudekraal area.

Here is a photograph of my friends Jessica and Alex with the beautiful view of the ocean from Leopard Bar's balcony:
Just one of the beautiful rooms the Twelve Apostles Hotel has to offer, the Leopard Room is an accordingly decorated lounge that takes over the balcony overlooking Cape Town's never-ending coast line. The eight tea stands supporting chocolate brownies, cream scones, finger sandwiches and a selection of the best teas and coffee, along with the amazing bar (proved by sense of sight as well as taste), left our group of 15 girls oh so satisfied, yet frothing for more!

Being a student, it is not like I would choose this venue as my weekly hangout, however, everyone deserves a treat once in a while, am I right? Leopard Bar’s summer menu offers a wide of treats indeed, including any type of wine one could think of served by bottle or by glass, savoury snack platters (starting at R135), beef biltong (starting at R50 for 100g), fresh oysters paired with champagne (starting at R195), full tea-stands filled with all sorts of goodies for R165, and the most delicious cocktails ranging between R50 for a ’Chocolate Cosmo’ and R180 for a ‘Classy Champagne Cocktail’.

Ultimately, exquisite cakes, mini sandwiches, cocktails and the most glorious sunset set fire to our November Sunday afternoon, leaving a very satisfied group of girls A-for-away in the nightlife of Camps Bay!

Tiger Tiger

Tiger Tiger - it's so nice, you've gotta say it twice!

Definitely one of the most popular clubs in Cape Town, Tiger Tiger is situated in the residential suburb of Claremont, where only the people who want to be seen and then drunkenly forgotten are found. Comprised of 7 luxurious bars and two dance floors, and an unbeatable smart dress code, the nightclub boasts a very classy venue pumping commercial beats for people to get...unclassy. There is really no argument why the likes of Greame Smith, Jacque Kallis, Michael Classens, Prince Harry, and Cape Town's 'beautiful' people choose Tiger Tiger as their party location!

Tiger Tiger's music is generated by a world class, state of the art sound system that sends waves of heart-throbbing and pulsating beats. Candle lights on the walls and a twisted arrangement of intimate seating areas allows you to relax in comfort and style - do you prefer to either take it easy on the side whilst sipping a smooth premium Miller or do you feel the need to dominate the dance floor? You can do both at Tiger Tiger :)
On a Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday one can always count on a great night out at Tiger Tiger, with most nights of the week having a themed dress-up party - it's basically a fact that costumes add to the craziness of a party!
Girls dancing on tables, barmen doing fire tricks, taking 'Tiger Shots', drunk men fighting and people going crazy on the massive circular dance floor in the middle of the room is all part of the authentic Tiger Tiger experience - embrace it! One problem people do have concerns the entrance fee (usually around R40) as it claims to keep the rif-raff out...but does it really?
TIP: Try not to trip up the escalator on the way to Tiger Tiger! The bouncers will notice, think you are uncontrollably drunk and not let you in even if your long last twin brother that you havn't seen since you were born is in there...get the point?
Tiger Tiger have also made themselves available to different crowds by altering the age groups that attend each night:
* Tuesdays & Thursdays: Over 18 for girls, and over 20 for boys
* Fridays: Over 21 for girls and boys
* Saturdays: Over 21 for girls, and over 23 for boys
UPCOMING EVENT: Enjoy DJ FRESH at Tiger Tiger on Thursday 19th May as well as R3 drinks until 10pm...yes I said R3 drinks! Whowza!
